Multimedia in the Classroom

The article i chose from the New York Times was about a physical education instructor who decided to use a video game in his physical education class. This was not just your ordinary game though. This was the new Dance Dance Revolution video game. Bill Hines, a teacher at South Middle School in Morgantown, West Virginia, wanted to try this game out on the students in his class. Hines has been teaching for twenty-seven years and has not ever seen students react this way to one of his activities. Hines chose to use the game because the students get very involved and it is a good physical workout as the students try to follow the pattern by dancing. Using Dance Dance Revolution must be successful decision also because at least several hundred schools in at least ten states are using the program right now. 1,500 schools are expected to be using the game in their curriculums by the end of the decade. This game was originally used to aid in the nation's battle against childhood obesity.
This enhancement of technology is great for this particular situation. The students in the classroom needed another form of physical activity that would supply a new challenge and would also grasp their full attention and participation. This media is great for the physical education program and i would consider using this game in the future in my curriculum.
